Climate change may be the greatest threat to sustainable development. Every year the average temperature is increasing. Unfortunately, women are bearing the largest burden of the global warming crisis. According to the UN report, 80% of the people relocated due to climate change are women. They also only hold 25% of all administrative and managerial positions in the business world. However, despite these disadvantages, some women have taken charge and are making a change in the world.
At myPAQ we strongly encourage and support gender & women empowerment, which is why it is only fair on our part to dedicate our company’s first newspaper to the Women’s History Month. This month we want to highlight the incredible contribution of the female leaders in the world. These amazing females are entrepreneurs, activists and scientists as well as leaders in the fight for global sustainability. Below you will find 5 inspiring women that are leading the way to a sustainable future:
1. Christiana Figueres, Costa Rica
Christiana Figueres is the head of UN Climate change convention and the founder of Global Optimism group. She made 2015 Paris Agreement possible by bringing together the biggest voices in government, finance and technology, NGOs and activists.
2. Dr. Jane Goodall, UK
The world’s foremost expert on Chimpanzees, Dr. Jane Goodall is best known for her incredible 60 years long field research on social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees. She continues to be an inspiring figure for young women all over the world.
3. Greta Thunberg, Sweden
A superstar in the making, Greta Thunberg captured the world’s attention when an image of her protesting against climate change outside Swedish Parliament went viral in 2015. She later that year addressed UN Climate Change Conference which sparked more protests around the world. She proves to everyone that age does not matter when it comes to making a change. She backs down from nobody and we are excited to watch her continue her legacy as a sustainable leader.
4. Isatou Ceesay, The Gambia
The Queen of Plastic, Isatou Ceesay works to empower women to recycle plastic waste. Ceesay and her team started One Plastic Bag project aiming to educate community regarding plastic wastes in 1998. She has educated millions on how to recycle plastic waste into sellable goods which will earn income.
5. Sylvia Earle, USA
Sylvia Earle, an oceanographer, is known for her research on marine algae. She has written many books and shoot documentaries against overfishing and ocean pollution and has led numerous underwater expenditures. She also launched the Mission Blue in 2009.
