March is filled with fun dates. We put together a list of some of our favourites that we thought were worth sharing:

  • World Wildlife Day (March 3rd)
  • International Women’s Day (March 8th)
  • Pi Day (March 14th)
  • Saint Patrick’s Day (March 17th)

Today is March 1st, which also means it is fun facts about names day. What better way to kick off our first newsletter than sharing a fun fact about our myPAQ name?

The name myPAQ was created in January 2020, just over a year ago. It represents the packs of bottles that are used at our dispensing kiosks!

Let us know a fun fact about your name and what you think about our newsletter!

myPAQ Update

For those of you that do not know us, our mission is to eliminate the need for plastic packaging for personal care and cleaning products. We are developing a dispensing kiosk that enables anyone to get their products in a way that is sustainable, affordable, and convenient. Just bring your refillable bottle to any of our locations and get your products when you need them.

Every month, we will give you a quick update about our progress. Last month, myPAQ partnered with an engineering firm in Halifax to begin the prototype process. We are working through every small detail of the kiosk so that nothing goes wrong when we launch. You do not want your shampoo mixing in with your laundry detergent and neither do we. Right now, we are looking for partners to participate in our pilot program. If you or someone you know is interested, reach out to us and we can chat more about it!

International Women's History Month

In honor of it also being Women’s History month, we curated a list highlighting woman that are taking charge and leading the way in the battle against climate change.

Sustainable Leaders

In this section of the newsletter, we want to showcase efforts that our readers are putting in to become more sustainable. If you or someone you know deserves to be featured, reach out to us and we will include you in one of our upcoming editions!

Simon Fraser University’s Oscar Sort

Intuitive AI, a startup founded by two SFU Microelectronics Engineering students developed the artificial intelligence robot “Oscar”. The robot can identify recycling trash and instruct users which bin to use when disposing their waste, thanks to a powerful AI camera and display screen installed in it.

SFU Surrey is aiming to reduce its waste contamination rate from 60 to 20 per cent with the help of Oscar.
